Bristol Root Canal Treatment

As dentists, our goal is to make sure your teeth last a lifetime. But sometimes damage can occur and it’s important to take effective measures in order to save the tooth. That’s why we provide root canal treatment to prevent tooth extraction when a tooth has been damaged by decay.

When you believe as passionately as we do that teeth are important for health and that it is ideal to maintain a full dentition, it follows that we devote a great deal of time and care to preserving them. Hence we have given root canal treatment a high priority within the dental practice.

We have invested in high-quality microscopes to aid in difficult molar root canal treatments and complex re-treatments. Our Bristol Dentist team are able to deal with most root canal treatments within the practice but occasionally will refer patients to an endodontic specialist for very complex cases.

Damage caused by infection

Infection can occur in a tooth that has cracked or suffered a deep cavity. The infection damages the tooth pulp (the network of blood vessels and nerves inside the tooth) and if left untreated, the infection can eventually cause damage to the bone around the tooth. This can be painful and lead to uncomfortable swelling. Root canal treatment is the best way to treat the infection without removing the tooth.

Why Do I Need A Root Canal Treatment?

  • Relieve the pain you are experiencing.
  • Save your natural tooth.
  • Avoid having your tooth removed.
  • Prevent recontamination and further discomfort.
  • Prevent surrounding teeth from moving crookedly because is missing.
  • Prevent the need for a denture, bridge or implant replacement.

Symptoms of root canal infection

If you have an infected root canal, you might not experience pain straight away. But as the infection spreads, pain becomes more prominent and if left untreated, the infection can lead to an abscess. These can be very painful and could lead to tooth extraction. This is why it’s important to have root canal treatment to prevent further damage before the infection has a chance to spread.

Symptoms of a tooth infection often cause a great deal of distress and can include:

  • Pain when biting down and sometimes pain or sensitivity when you touch the tooth
  • Discoloration of the infected tooth
  • A loose tooth
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures
